One of the things that has been getting to me about Pittsburgh is all the snow and lack of parking. In the past few weeks I have had to dig my car out from under excessive amounts of snow and clear the spot all around it, only to come home and find someones car who is at the bar next door parked in the freshly shoveled spot. DIG YOUR OWN SPOT PEOPLE!!! You know that someone had to go out in the cold and spend sometimes up to a couple hours clearing a spot for their car. In most cases I’m sure they didn’t do this for their health or to come home ten minutes later to find your car in their spot. Now I know that street parking is free to anyone and I sound selfish claiming public parking to be mine, but have some freaking sympathy. Chances are they had to dig their car out to get to the bar so they know what time and energy someone had to put in to making that spot.

Then you have the lawn chair people. They put lawn chairs out in the spot they dug so no one can park there. I think this is fine as long as people play by the rules. I know that there is not a law here that allows people the right to claim a public parking spot as their own, but I think in extreme weather conditions there should be. In some cities there actually are, but in dear old Pittsburgh you lawn chair space saver is considered abandoned property, and you have the people who will just run over and park on top of whatever you put out to protect your spot.

The guys name in Marcus. He is a very intellectual character, the kind you see hanging out at the library or book store reading old war novels and history books. He is kind of a big guy, he probably weighs about two hundred and fifty pound. Not a guy you would want to mess with. He wears big framed eye glasses that look to big for even his face and a little top hat to cover the balding spots on the top of his head. His face is covered in a well groomed full beard, graying in spots with small pieces of this mornings breakfast still dangling in it. He wears a suit that would remind you of an old Sherlock Holmes movie, or maybe a picture of Baby Face Nelson without the baby face. He has a cane leaning on the arm of the sofa where he is sitting reading his books. He looks as if he had gone to sleep in nineteen thirty two and woke up in two thousand and ten. He wears a pair of what looks like really expensive penny loafers, and even has suspenders with shiny gold clips. Yes, he is a man of mystery this Marcus character. He’s a  man of mystery.

The Pittsburgh landmark I am writing about is six hundred and thirty five feet long and rises to and elevation of three hundred and sixty nine feet. It was constructed in eighteen seventy and has been renovated three times. The first time was in eighteen eighty two, the second was in nineteen eighty two, and the last time was in nineteen ninety four. It was constructed of wood and steel at a cost of fifty thousand dollars. It was named a historic landmark in nineteen sixty four and it sits close to another historic landmark that connects East Carson st. to downtown. The motor of the landmark was replaced once in nineteen thirty two, changing it from steam powered to electric and was replaced again in its latest renovation in nineteen ninety four. It is was one of only two in the city and a few in the world and is the longest continuous running system in the US. There were originally seventeen of these in the city. It moves at a speed of six miles per hour and carries a maximum of twenty three passengers.

Despite the 2010 postponement, we intend to move toward continuing ROTHBURY in 2011.  This event is something very special, and we are unwilling to potentially tarnish what ROTHBURY is, and can become, by working under conditions that will produce anything less than a magical experience.”

I went to the telepath show at rex this weekend and was not to impressed. maybe it was because the last time i saw them they opened for Sound Tribe and that is what I remembered sounding so good. Actually i know it is! The bassist and the drummer weren’t to bad and neither was the keyboardist, but i just DO NOT like that guy for some reason! I don’t know what it is. He’s actually a really good player, but i just can’t stand him. Maybe it’s the way he tries to dance while he’s playing. HMm??
